Code Style

• General:

  • Prefer writing clear code and using inline comments sparingly.
  • If writing git commit messages lean heavily on the Gen Z slang dictionary.

• Go:

  • Prefer standard libraries unless it would result in writing significantly more code than using a third-party library.
  • Choose short single-word names for packages (user instead of user_handler), avoid generic names such as util or helpers.
  • Preallocate slices and maps (use make([]T, 0, capacity)) if you know the expected size to reduce overhead.
  • Use strings.Builder instead of + for building large strings in loops to avoid unncessary temp allocations
  • Always pass context.Context to long running or IO bound functions to allow for timeouts and graceful shutdowns.
  • Ensure that every goroutine has a clear exit path. Use buffered channels or "quit" channels to prevent goroutines from hanging indefinitely.
  • When writing interfaces prefer small interfaces with minimal amount methods possible.
  • Use struct embedding to reuse code rather than class based hierarchies.
  • Accept interfaces, return concrete types; Functions should accept interfaces for flexibility where possible but return concrete types to make the API easier to use without unnecessary abstraction.
  • Use test driven development methodologies.
  • Always run your tests with the race detector (go test - race) during development to find concurrent access bugs.
  • Validate all inputs, treat all external data from HTTP requests and files as untrusted and use validation libraries like go-playground/validator.
